Definition of reed switch
- reed switch

1. A mechanical switch with no visible moving parts. Inside the housing are two filaments. One of the filaments is composed of iron. When a magnet is brought close to the filament, it moves enough to make or break contact with the other one, thus completing or opening a circuit.
