Glossary line equalization

Definition of line equalization

line equalization
1.  Every fax machine is a certain distance from the CO (central office) of the local phone company. Fax machines usually come preset to a distance of approximately 1 mile, which works fine in nearly all cases. In some cases, if the machine is much closer to or farther from the central office, there may be problems sending and/or receiving faxes. Line equalization can usually be set to nominal settings of 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4 miles to compensate.
