Glossary fine mode

Definition of fine mode

fine mode
1.  Vertical scan speed (the speed at which the original moves past the optics unit and consequently the speed at which the recording paper moves over the thermal head) is cut in 1/2 to give a finer resolution. In standard mode, resolution is 20:3 dpi (dots per inch) horizontal and 98 dpi vertical. In "fine" the vertical is increased to 196 dpi. Thus, fine print and details will be clearer and easier to read in fine mode. There will be more phone time spent. If the receiving machine does not have "fine" capability, the document will still arrive in the standard mode. Some machines are equipped with "extra fine," "super fine" etc.
