1. A common family of network technologies, used to allow network-enabled devices to communicate.
More Information:
Standardized as 802.3, ethernet is a common LAN (local area network) technology. It has been in use since around 1980, and largely replaced other LAN technologies such as ARCNET, FDDI and Token Ring. This network technology uses multiple media, such as copper (sheilded or unshielded twisted-pair) or fiber optic cable.
