Definition of ECM

ECM
1.  An acronym for error correction mode. The fax analyzes the signal after it has been sent and decides if it was sent properly. If not, it will resend it for that particular portion. In many cases, this will take place only if both machines are so equipped. Some recent machines will do this even if the other machine is not so equipped. This will minimize incomplete and line errors.
