Definition of current loop (20mA)

current loop (20mA)
1.  A means of communicating data via the presence or absence of current on a two-wire cable. This is an older alternative to the RS-232C format for serial transmissions. RS-232C signals are defined in terms of the voltage, current loop signals are defined in terms of the amount of current flowing.
