HP Laserjet 2100 Maintenance Kit includes the following items:
Required tools: a small flat-blade screwdriver, a medium-sized flat-blade screwdriver, a
#2 Phillips screwdriver, and a pair of needle-nose pliers.
CAUTION: Wear rubber gloves while handling the new Transfer Roller,
Separation Pads and Pickup Rollers. Finger oils and dirt can damage the Transfer Roller surface and reduce the effectiveness of the Separation Pad and Pickup Rollers.
Removal and Installation Instructions
Replace the Transfer Roller:

- Open the toner cartridge door
(Figure 2) and remove the toner
cartridge.
- Locate the transfer roller’s black bushing (Figure 3C), which is on the left end of
the transfer roller (Figure 3A) shaft and just behind the gear (Figure 3B).

3. Squeeze both of the black bushing’s tabs (Figure 4, Item 4A) and then lift the transfer roller’s shaft to the left (Figure 4, Item 4B) to
remove the transfer roller.
4. Put on rubber gloves, then install the new transfer roller.

Replace the Tray 1 Pickup Roller Assembly and Separation Pad Arm Assembly
1. Remove the Tray 2 Paper Cassette, then Press and hold the
release button on the right side cover (Figure 5). |
2. Grasp the front and rear of the right side
cover (Figure 6) and
swing it out from the
printer. |

| 3. Open the rear output bin until it stops
(Figure 7). |
4. Pull it again so that it rests parallel to
the floor (Figure 8). |
 |
 |
| 5. Remove the two rear cover screws
(Figure 9). |
6. Pull the rear cover down and then out
(Figure 10) to remove it. |
 |
 |
7. Release the swing arm* from the toner cartridge door (Figure 11, Item 11A),
then push it down into the opening (Figure 11, Item 11B).

| 8. Remove the front top cover screws (Figure 12). |
9. Remove the rear top cover screws
(Figure 13). |

| 10. Open the Tray 1 door (Figure 14). |
11. Use a small flat-blade screwdriver to release
the top cover latch (Figure 15). |
|
|
| 12. Lift the top cover off to remove it
(Figure 16). |
13. Release the left cover latch (Figure 17A) then
lift the cover up and outward (Figure 17B). |
|
|
14. Using needle nose pliers, disconnect the
Tray 1 Support Springs (Figure 18). |
15. Disconnect the Tray 1 Pivot Arms
(Figure 19). |

16. Remove the Tray 1 bottom piece by sliding
it to the left (Figure 20). |
17. Rotate the pivot arms to the upward position
(Figure 21). |
 |
 |
| 18. Remove the Tray 1 top piece (Figure
22). |
19. Rotate the pivot arms downward, and
remove the pivot arms (Figure 23). |
 |
 |
20. Disconnect the ribbon cable (Figure 24, Item 24A) and the power cable (Figure 24, Item 24B).
21. Remove the four screws (Figure 24, Item 24C) from the sheet-metal RFI shield.
22. Remove the sheet-metal metal RFI shield. |

23. Remove the screw (Figure 25) from the Formatter PCB.
24. Remove the Formatter PCB. |
|
25. Disconnect the ribbon cable (Figure 26, Item 26A) and the main motor cable (Figure 26, Item 26B). |
|
26. Remove the two ground screws (Figure 27, Item 27A) and the five self tapping screws Figure 27, Item 27B).
27. Lift the printer drive assembly out to remove it. |
|
28. Remove the Tray 1 drive gear (Figure 28, Item 28A), by pressing the release tab and rotating it to get it past the solenoid (Figure 28, Item 28B). |
|
29. Remove the black right bushing* (Figure 29) by pulling out its lever and rotating it clockwise until the tab clears the keyed opening.

30. Turn the printer around and remove the white left bushing (Figure 30) by pulling out its lever and rotating it counter clockwise until the tab clears the keyed opening. |
|
31. Slide the Pickup Roller Shaft Assembly (Figure 31) to the right until the left end of the shaft clears the opening, then slide the assembly back to the left to remove it. |

32. Slide the two black guide rollers away from the Pickup Roller (Figure 32). |
 |
33. Press the release tab (Figure 33) on the Pickup Roller and remove it from the shaft. |
 |
34. Press the Separation Pad Arm Assembly (Figure 34) slightly to the left (Figure 34, Item 34A), then rotate the Separation Pad Arm Assembly forward (Figure 34, Item 34B). |
 |
35. Squeeze both brackets inward (Figure 35, Item 35A) on the Separation Pad Arm Assembly, then remove it from the printer (Figure 35, Item 35B).
36. Put on rubber gloves, then install the new Tray 1 Separation Pad Arm Assembly and Pickup Roller. |

Replace the Tray 2 Pickup Roller
1. Turn the printer top-downward with
the front facing you (Figure 36).
2. Tilt the white bushing lever to the
left (Figure 36, Item 36A), then
rotate the lever until the tab is
aligned with the opening on the
carriage (Figure 36, Item 36B).

3. Slide the white bushing (Figure 37) to the left.

4. Grasp the black bushing with needle nose pliers (Figure 38) and rotate it until it points straight up.

5. Slide the black bushing to the right (Figure 39) and remove it. |
6. Slide the Pickup Roller Assembly to the right and remove it (Figure 40). |

7. Slide the two white guide rollers off of the Pickup Roller (Figure 41).
8. Put on rubber gloves, then install the new Pickup Roller. |
 |
Replace the Fusing Assembly
1. Remove the right side cover (see page 3) and remove the rear cover (see page 4).
2. Disconnect the left wire by pulling it straight out and disconnect the right wire by pressing a
flat blade screwdriver on the connector and then pulling the connector straight out (Figure 42).

3. Remove the two grounding plate screws (Figure 43).

4. Remove the two screws that hold the Fusing Assembly to the printer (Figure 44). |

5. Remove the Fusing Assembly from the printer (Figure 45).

| 4. Remove the Paper Level Indicator Lever (Figure 51). |
5. Release the Paper Lift Plate by pressing the trigger release arm on the left and right side latches (Figure 52). |

 |
| 6. On the underside of the tray, press the release catch on BOTH the left and right side latches (Figure 53) so they can pivot freely. |
7. Rotate BOTH the left and right Side Latches upward (Figure 54, Item 54A) then slide them inward to remove them (Item 54B). |

 |
| 8. Rotate the Paper Lift Plate upward (Figure 55), then lift it straight up to remove it. |
9. Turn the tray over, and using a flatblade screwdriver, release the two lock levers for the Separation Pad Assembly (Figure 56). |
 |
 |
10. Press the Tray Lifter Spring down (Figure 57, Item 57A), then rotate the
Separation Pad and metal Support Arm upward, then slide the arm left to
remove it (Item 57B).

| 11. Using a small, flat-blade screwdriver,
carefully press the two lock levers to release the Separation Pad Assembly from the metal Support arm (Figure 58). |
12. Slide the Separation Pad Assembly off of the metal Support Arm (Figure 59).
NOTE: save the SPRING and connect it to
the new Separation Pad. |

| 13. Put on rubber
gloves, then
install the new Separation Pad Assembly (Figure 60). |
